Big Blue Crushes AAA?Powers

The Class single-A Magnolia Blue Eagles gave triple-A powers Logan and Nitro a stocking full of coal over the weekend, defeating Logan 86-60 then turning Nitro on its ear 79-55.

Both wins came in the Charleston Civic Center and gave Magnolia a perfect 5-0 record heading into its first home game on Dec. 27 against the Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights.

There was no Silent Night as Mark “Special K” Winters lit up the scoreboard with 56 points in the two games, while Zach Wilhoite gift wrapped 27 points.

The Eagles opened the first quarter against Logan with a 19-16 lead, but quickly forged ahead with a 24-11 run to go up 43-27 at the break. The Big Blue turned into Scrooge after posting a 25-13 third quarter blitz.

Winters punctuated his 34 points against Logan with two baskets from beyond the arc and was 6-6 from the charity stripe. Wilhoite added 15 markers, while freshman Preston Boswell posted 14 points that included a bombs-away three pointer.

In addition, Stephen Rogalski netted eight markers, while Mike Winters contributed six points. Spencer Campbell and Eric Smith each tallied three markers, while Dylan Shimp swished one at the charity stripe.

It was Bah Humbug to Nitro on Saturday, as Mark Winters tallied 22 points, while Rogalski paced the Big Blue offense with a game-high 26 points that included a trio of baskets from beyond the arc to lead Magnolia to an easy 79-55 victory.

Magnolia ended the first frame against Nitro 22-9 and went 25-10 in the third period to pick up its fifth win in as many outings.

Wilhoite followed Rogalski and Winters with a 12-point game, while Boswell connected on a pair of three-point baskets on his way to a 10-point night.

In addition, Campbell netted four points, while Mike Winters added a deuce.
