‘Cats Win Mason-Dixon
The Paden City Lady Wildcat volleyball team has turned more than a few heads this season, finding success over dominant teams and setting the bar high.
“We’re doing well right now,” said Head Coach Fred King. “We just need to keep this enthusiasm up throughout the sectionals.”
On Oct. 27, in Bob Burton Gymnasium, the Paden City ladies secured their fifth straight Mason Dixon Conference title, handing losses to both Clay-Battelle and Madonna.
Against the Lady Cee-Bee’s, the ‘Cats took little time in showing their dominance with wins of 25-10 and 25-10 to send them straight to the finals.
Strong serving by senior Logan Cosper set the tone of the game with 15 served points, 60 sets, 23 assists, and one dig. Sister Taylor Cosper served up 12 points for the Green and White against Clay-Battelle, with two aces and four digs.
Josie Fox added six points to the mix, one ace, and three digs; Myah Charkawi added six points, one kill, and eight digs; Graeson Baker contributed five points and five digs; Lynnsie Parsons scored four points, seven digs, and 12 kills; Megan Pierce nailed five kills; Dezirae Middleton has a dig; and Haley Hizer delivered on five kills and one dig. In the championship game, the showdown was between Paden City and the Lady Dons of Weirton Madonna. The Lady ‘Cats wasted no time showing their prowess at the net, securing two quick wins, 25-15 and 25-18, to take their fifth straight MDC Championship. The service points of the Cosper sisters played a major role in the win for Paden City, with Taylor serving 15 and Logan chipping in 13 and an ace. The younger Cosper also had one kill and six digs, while Logan had four digs, 71 sets, and 30 assists. Charkawi added 12 points, one ace, three kills, and seven digs; Parsons served up five points, five digs, and dominated with 17 kills; Baker marked up three points and 11 digs; Fox scored two points, one kill, and four digs; Pierce had five kills; and Hizer and another three kills.
The Lady Wildcats finished their regular 2012 season with a 28-11 record and honored the team’s two seniors, Lynnsie Parsons and Logan Cosper, on senior night, Oct. 23, the last home match of the season.
