PCHS – TCHS – JMHS

Paden City split its matches in a triangular last Tuesday inside the Bob Burton Gymnasium.

The Lady Wildcats fell to the OVAC Class-AAA champion Tyler Consolidated in straight sets, 25-10 and 25-14, and salvaged the split, beating Class-AAAA John Marshall in three sets, 16-25, 25-12, and 24-26.

The victory over JMHS came in exciting fashion, as the ‘Cats jumped all over the Monarchs from the start and coasted to a nine-point victory. However, Paden City blew a golden opportunity to put their visitors away when they were defeated by 13 points.

The disappointed Lady “Cats could have folded after the second set, but they went on to claim a hard-fought 24-26 decision in an overtime thriller.

In the victory, the Paden City’s Logan and Taylor Cosper combined for 35 points to gain the nod. Logan added 92 sets, 30 assists, and two digs, while baby sister Taylor contributed four digs.

Graeson Baker followed with eight points, six digs and a pair of kills, while Lynnsie Parsons and Josie Fox each tallied seven points and six digs. Parsons had a game-high 14 kills, while Myah Charkawai netted six service points, 12 digs, and let loose three kills, while Megan Pierce and Hayley Hizer had six and three kills, respectively.

In the loss to the Lady Silver Knights, there were no double-digit scorers. However, Logan Cosper made 10 assists on 48 sets, while scoring five points and making a dig. Taylor Cosper tallied a team-high six points, while Parsons and Charkawi each tallied four points and made four digs. Baker had two service points, while she and Pierce each made a kill. Parsons and Hizer each made four kills for the Lady Wildcats. Valley – Clay-Battelle

All six Lady Lumberjill starters scored in double-figures to help them pass the Cee-Bees Oct. 16, winning in four sets, 21-25, 17-25, 27-25, and 26-28 at Pine Grove.

Brittany Haught led the way with 21 service points, including three aces, 12 spikes, and six digs, while Justine Miller followed with 20 points, eight digs, and six spikes. Ali Haught tallied 18 points, 12 spikes, eight blocks, and six digs.

In addition, Sarah Bassett netted 17 points that included six service aces. She added seven digs and four spikes, while Jessica Ashcraft scored 14 points, including six service aces. She also made 107 sets, six digs, and three spikes. Brittany Sivert tallied 13 points, made 14 digs and blasted 31 spikes. Magnolia – Brooke

Ashley Moore scored a game-high 29 points while adding three digs to help lead the Blue Eagle girls’ volleyball team to a three-set victory, 13-25, 10-25, and 18-25 over the Brooke Bruins Oct. 16 inside the warm and cozy HammerDome on Senior Nite.

Mallory Chapman had another fine outing, scoring 12 points that included six service aces. She also produced nine digs, six kills, and three blocks, while the Eagles’ lone senior, Hillary Feldmeier, added 10 points. Erinn Clegg tallied nine points, while Lauren Cline added six points and made 21 assists. Kiera Standiford made seven kills, while Abby Durig tacked on a trio of digs.

Hundred – Madonna

The Lady Hornets gave Weirton Madonna all they could handle, but fell in straight sets, 13-25, 17-25, and 12-25 Oct. 11.

Andrea Nagy paced Hundred with 11 points, while Emily Ebert added eight points. Josie Phillips tallied seven markers, while Paige Shriver delivered six points. Shelly Cork and Medliah Umstead each recorded five points.

HHS – Trinity – VHS

The Lady Hornets lost a triangler match with Morgantown Trinity, 15-25 and 15-25, and with the Valley Lumberjills, 19-25 and 13-25, on Oct. 8.

Nagy paced the Lady Hornets with 17 points on the night, while Ebert and Umstead added 13 and 11 markers, respectively. The trio of Cork, Phillips, and Shriver each recorded seven points.

The Lady Wildcat volleyball program will host the Mason Dixon Conference regular volleyball season championships on Oct. 27 at Bob Burton Gymnasium. Action will begin at 10 a.m. with the number one seeded Lady ‘Cats taking on number four seed Clay-Battelle; at 11 a.m. Number two seed Madonna will play number three seed, Trinity, at noon. The winners of games one and two will play the championship. Magnolia – River

Lady Pilot Jensen Caretti blocked six Lady Eagle shots and made 15 kills, but it wasn’t enough to stop Magnolia from winning 26-24, 25-20, and 25-18 to get the season series sweep, Oct. 17.

Erinn Clegg had a match-high 16 points for the Eagles and added six service aces and six blocks. Mallory Chapman and Hillary Feldmeier each recorded 15 points. Chapman added three aces, four blocks, eight kills, and 10 digs, while Feldmeier made seven digs.

In addition, Lauren Cline made 28 assists, three aces, two blocks, and scored a dozen points, while Emily Clegg and Ashley Moore each tacked on nine points. Moore added six service aces and made two digs, while Emily Clegg added an ace and a block.

For the Lady Pilots, Annie Turner and Leslie Young each added four kills and three digs, with Turner making 22 assists. Hannah Jones made 24 digs and scored an ace, while Monica Curtis made 10 digs. Mackenzie Marshall made nine digs and three kills, while Mackenzie Wade had seven digs. Brielle Williams smacked two kills and made a block, while Mikayla Ciezeski made two blocks and Brittany Harrigan tallied a pair of service aces.

PCHS – CBHS – WCC

The Lady Wildcats clinched the regular season Mason-Dixon Conference volleyball title Oct. 18, defeating Wood County Christian 23-25 and 20-25 and Clay-Battelle 21-25 and 10-25 at Bob Burton Gymnasium.

Taylor Cosper scored a match-high 25 points and made seven digs, while Myah Charkawi added 21 points, four aces, five kills, and 13 digs in the two-match victory. Logan Cosper tallied 20 points and made 126 sets with 53 assists, while Graeson Baker netted 14 points, 14 digs, and blasted five kills.

In addition, Josie Fox added 11 points and four digs, while Lynnsie Parsons tallied nine points, and made 19 kills and six digs. The duo of Hayley “Hillary” Hizer and Megan Pierce combined for 22 kills.

The Region I, Section II volleyball tournament will begin on Oct. 29 at Clay-Battelle High School in Blacksville. At 6 p.m., number four seed Valley will play number five seed St. Marys. At 7:30 p.m., number one seed Tyler Consolidated will take on the winner.

On Oct. 30 at 6 p.m., number three seed Clay-Battelle will face off with number six seed, Hundred. At 7:30 p.m., number two seeded Paden City will play the winner.

On Oct. 31, the overall winners of the first night and second night will play at 6 p.m. with both moving onto the Regional.

Region I, Section I teams are Magnolia, Wheeling Central, Cameron, Madonna, and Bishop Donahue. The Region I volleyball contest will be held Nov. 3 at Tyler Consolidated High School, beginning at 6 p.m. The top two teams in Sections I and II will vie for the opportunity to move up to the State Volleyball Tournament in Charleston on Nov. 13.
