Rockets Beat Up ‘Cats
The Conotton Valley Rocket football team traveled to Berger Field on Friday to take on the Wildcats, leaving with the win, 56-12, after four physical quarters of play.
“They were a pretty good football team,” said Wildcat Head Coach Brent Croasmun. “We got beat up pretty good. We lost a few guys before the end of the game, and are hoping we get them back before we suit up next week.”
Conotton Valley started its scoring bonanza with 8:40 remaining in the first quarter of the game and went on to total 21 points in the first stanza. The team totaled 35 points by the half and added 21 in the second half to finish off the Green and White.
Paden City scored a touchdown in the first few minutes of the second quarter on a Zach Heasley 19-yard pass to Drew Bidwell. PC tacked on another six points with 49 seconds remaining to play in the fourth as running back Brandon Cross scooted 65 yards for a TC.
The Rockets totaled 310 rushing yards on 37 carries and 103 passing yards for a total of 413 yards in the game.
Paden City gained 72 positive ground yards on 21 carries and 86 passing yards for a total of 158 yards.
Cross made the highlights for the ‘Cats, rushing eight times for 80 yards and one TD. Heasley completed nine of 22 passes for 86 yards and one touchdown, but was intercepted once.
In the receiving department, Bidwell caught three passes for 33 yards and one touchdown. Kennedy Cain had three catches for 28 yards. Cross caught one for 14 yards; Craig Allen caught a pass for six yards; and Deven Price caught one pass for five yards.
Defensively, Allen led the home team with 10 tackles. Logan Carroll was credited with seven tackles; Willie Wilkinson made seven tackles; Michael Wilcox, seven tackles; Luke Cooper, five tackles; and Heasley had one interception.
On Friday, the Wildcats will hold their senior night as they host Bishop Donahue. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at Berger Field.
