Lady Eagles Tie Silver Knights

Lady Blue Eagle Stephanie Mullett drilled a 30 yard goal over the out-stretched hands of the Tyler Consolidated keeper in the first half of play and hung in for a 1-1 tie Tuesday, Sept. 10 in Middlebourne. It was the first match that they haven’t lost in eight games this year.
“The girls put together their best match of the season,” said Magnolia Assistant Coach Carla Wade. “The girls are playing hard game after game, and i’m tickled for them to play a very good Tyler team even.”
Magnolia’s Brianna “Lion” Young made 12 saves in the game, while defensive specialists Sarah Goddard, Krysta Hendersdon, Shannan Hoskins and Mandi Theodoro kept the Lady Knights from making more shots at the net. Kacie Jo Brown, who returned to the team after being out with an ankle injury early in the season, also gave the Magnolia defense a lift.
Good midfielders and a solid defense are required for a team to win, and Mullett, Sydney Smith, Destiny Yoho and Hannah Glow were on top of their game and took multiple shots at the Knights’ net.
Yoho and Mullett took most of the opportunities, while Glow and Smith helped set up their teammates to score.
The Lady Eagles’ next match is with Morgantown Trinity in Morgantown Sept. 20 at 5:30 p.m.
