River Falls To ‘Noles
Monroe Central pocketed 30 points in the third quarter to defeat the River Pilots 50-26 at Woodsfield Sept. 7.
The Seminoles scored the game’s first two touchdowns in the opening period on a pair of long runs. However, the Pilots answered with a 29-yard TD pass from Cody Caldwell to Kameron Brown, a two-yard scamper by Nick Asturi and two good conversion kicks by Colton Wright to tie the score at the break.
The Pilots fumbled early in the third period to key Monroe’s 30-point splurge. However, River scored when Asturi ran the ball 58 yards for a TD to stop the bleeding. In addition, the never-say-die Pilots engineered an impressive drive that was capped off by an Asturi 40-yard run in the fourth period. However, Central finished all the scoring on a 72-yard TD run. Asturi finished the night with 171 yards rushing and three touchdowns, while Jordan Sapp tacked on 31 yards in 10 carries. Caldwell added two yards and passed for 112 yards and a touchdown. He was picked off once.
Monroe Central completed only 2-6 passes for 71 yards and a touchdown. The Pilots moved the chains 16 times to the Seminoles’ 13, but would lose the ball on fumbles four times, each of which allowed the ‘Noles to score.
The Pilots will visit Magnolia this Friday at 7:30 p.m. in a battle of cross-river rivals.
