Pilots Stop Newcomerstown

The Pilot’s Nick Asturi tallied three touchdowns and accumulated 145 yards to pace River to a convincing 35-7 victory over the Trojans in Newcomerstown Aug. 31.

Asturi went the distance on touchdown runs of 12, 5 and 26 yards, while Cody “Golden Arm” Caldwell scampered into the endzone from five yards out and hooked up with Kameron Brown on a nifty 56 yard pitch-and-catch. Meanwhile, place kicker Colton Wright nailed five PAT kicks for all the Pilot scoring.,

Jordan Sapp added 76 yards on the ground, while Caldwell connected on 9-16 passes for 181 yards and a TD. The Pilots accounted for 28 first downs, while their defense held the Trojans to minus yards rushing.

River will face county rival Monroe Central at 7 p.m. in Woodsfield Friday, Sept. 7.
