Lady Pilots Win Over Redskins; Lose To Warriors

River’s volleyball team lost two of the first three sets Aug. 29, but came back to win in overtime against the Lady Redskins in Caldwell.

Caldwell jumped all over the Lady Pilots to win the first set, 15-25, but River would take set two 25-19 before dropping a heartbreaker 22-25.

However, the Jim Turner-coached team put it all together and destroyed the Lady Redskins, 25-12, to set up the tie-breaker in overtime.

The finale was a thriller as it also went to sudden death, with the Lady Pilots prevailing 17-15 over Caldwell.

Annie Turner paced the Pilots with 28 points, including six service aces, while adding 25 assists. Teammate Brielle Williams followed with 13 points, two of which came way of the serve, while landing14 kills, and blocking nine shots at the net.

Hannah Jones scored 12 points and made 10 digs, while Jensen Caretti added 11 kills and four blocks. In addition, Mackenzie Marshall provided 10 digs for the Lady Pilots.

After winning defeating Caldwell, the Lady Pilots hooked up with Buckeye Trail in another thriller Sept. 1 at RHS.

After dropping the first set 18-25, the Lady Pilots put together a 25-19 victory in the second set. River lost 18-25 in the third set and dropped a 25-27 overtime fourth set to lose the match.

Five Lady Pilots scored in double figures, with Turner leading the way with 17 points. Marshall and Mackenzie Wade evenly split 30 points, while Jones and Williams added 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Turner and Marshall each recorded three service aces, while Turner added 34 assists, two blocks and 10 digs and Marshall added three kills and 13 digs.

In addition, Caretti drilled 16 kills and blocked seven shots, while Leslie Young added seven kills. Williams added eight kills and blocked two shots, while Jones added 19 digs.
