Dragons Slay ‘Jacks, 37-20

By Staff | Sep 5, 2012

The Valley Lumberjacks posted a 20-7 lead at the break, but couldn’t hold on to it, as the Cameron Dragons scored 30 second half points to beat Valley 37-20 in Cameron Aug. 31.

Spencer Mason rushed for 102 yards and scored two first-half touchdowns, while Chase West caught a 35-yard TD bomb from Tristen Kocher to lead the young Lumberjacks. Peyton Palmer added two conversion kicks, while Kocher completed 4-11 for 126 yards and a touchdown. He hooked up with West, Troy Hubbard, Liam Midcap, and Dustin Lowe, while Mason, Kocher, Dennis Streets, Collin Bates and Colton Ring each netted yardage on the turf.

Defensively, T. C. Long tackled nine Dragons and had a quarterback sack, while Luke Martin added his own quarterback sack. Streets made seven tackles and recovered a fumble, while West added a fumble recovery.

The Lumberjacks had 16 first downs, one less than Cameron, while the Dragons lost 50 more yards than Valley on penalties.

“We did what we wanted to both offensively and defensively in the first half. But our injuries caught up with us in the second half and Cameron took advantage,” said interim Head Coach Jim West. “We should get back a couple experienced players back for the Hundred game Friday.” Head Coach Tom West is temporarily sidelined as he recovers from minor surgery.

Valley will cross Barker Road to take on county rival Hundred in the Wetzel County version of the Back Yard Brawl, Friday night at 7:30 at Cosgray Field in Hundred.
