NMS?To Host Wrestling Camp

By Staff | Jun 13, 2012

The Granby School of Wrestling will be at the New Martinsville Middle School on June 18, 19, and 20 from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. each day; the first day includes registration from 8-9 a.m.

Anyone that knows wrestling recognizes the “Granby” brand as tops in the sport. Famous for their incomparable shoulder rolls and shrugs, they also teach the top level overall skills to be successful at any level of competitive wrestling.

Dominated by the Martin family from south eastern Virginia, Coach Steve Martin (now of Old Dominion University) brings his unique abilities as a coach and as an athlete to the New Martinsville area. Clinic coaches are Granby trained and master teachers.

The majority of the staff coach at the high school level in championship programs, while others compete in college at the Division 1 level at various universities around the nation.

Says clinic director and New Martinsville Middle School wrestling coach John Holliday, “This is a great opportunity for wrestlers in the area. They can develop tried and true skills right here that are proven to work and at the same time are fun to learn. I have been involved with these folks since 1984 and each year I still learn things that I try and take back to my athletes.

“Most of these guys coach or have coached at the high school level and, personally, I think that makes the clinic even better. No one that wants to be a better wrestler should pass up this local opportunity.

“People travel from all over the country to their Virginia camps and we are getting them right here on our mats.”

Registration is for wrestlers from kindergarten through high school seniors and can be done online at www.ganbyschool.com, or from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., Monday, June 18, at the door.
