Wildcats’ Zach Heasley And Kennedy Cain Team For 52 Points In Victory Over Calhoun
Paden City freshmen Zach Heasley and Kennedy “Bullseye” Cain teamed for 52 points to help carry the ‘Cats past Calhoun County Red Devils, 69-39 in the opener of the West Virginia Class-A Region One, Section Two sectionals in Bob Burton Gymnasium Feb. 23.
Paden City jumped out to an 18-12 lead in the first period and went into the locker room with a modest 32-24 advantage.
However, Heasley and Cain started to heat up from the outside to help the Wildcats outscore the Devils 24-8 for a 56-32 lead with eight minutes remaining in the game.
The combination Bidwell to Bidwell was heard quite often in the fourth period as junior point guard Drew Bidwell connected with his senior brother, Geoffrey, on multiple back-door cuts that pushed Paden City over the top.
Heasley recorded a season-high 27 points, including six baskets from beyond the arc, and pulled down five boards to pace the Wildcat Express. Cain added five bonus bombs en route to a 25-point night, while grabbing 10 rebounds and making a pair of steals.
In addition, Geoffrey Bidwell added 12 points and hauled in five boards, while Drew Bidwell netted a deuce and handed out a game-high nine assists. Craig Allen netted a deuce and a free throw for all the Wildcat scoring.
Paden City 42, Williamstown 65
Paden City freshman Kennedy “Bullseye” Cain and senior Geoffrey Bidwell teamed for 19 points, but it wasn’t enough as Williamstown ended the Wildcat season 65-42 Feb. 25 in Williamstown.
Zach Heasley followed with eight points and had a team-high eight rebounds, while Jay Billiter ended his Wildcat basketball career with six points and three rebounds. Drew Bidwell contributed five points, while Craig Allen netted four markers.
Paden City’s Billiter and Geoffrey Bidwell will be lost to gradation this year, but returning next season will be Cain, Heasley, Allen, Kane Pyes, Brandon Cross, and Levi Meadows.
