Lady Hornets Win Two

Mercedes Goff set a new school record with eight three point-baskets to help the Lady Hornets beat Notre Dame 56-43 Feb. 2 inside the Hornets Nest.

Hundred captured a 16-5 lead after one period of non-stop action, but the Lady Irish used a 17-9 run in the second to close the gap to 25-22 by the break. Hundred outscored Notre Dame 13-10 in the third and put the exclamation point with an 18-11 run in the fourth to gain their 10th win of the season against nine losses.

In setting the record, Goff sank two three-point baskets in each of the four periods, while scoring a game-high 26 points, while Cheyenne Myers and Katie Tennant added a double-double and a triple-double, respectively. Myers tallied 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Tennant netted 10 points, hauled in 17 rebounds and made 10 assists.

In addition, Emily Ebert netted four points, while Shayna Tedrow pulled down 16 off the glass for Hundred. “We lost to Notre Dame on their home court, and the girls had a bad taste in their mouth and wanted this win very badly. Their play was outstanding,” said Hundred Head Coach Jeremy Kelch.

Union 24, Hundred 66

The Lady Hornets raced out to a 15-1 lead Feb. 4 to open their home game against Union Grant and finished on top, 66-24, with an 18-3 scoring run and holding Union to no points the last six minutes. It was the Lady Hornet Senior Night.

Tennant tallied another double-double, scoring 14 points and hauling in 18 rebounds to pace the Lady Hornets, while Myers had her second straight double-double with 12 points and 12 boards. Goff followed her sensational outing against Notre Dame with nine points, including a pair of long range bonuses, while passing out three assists.

In addition, Hayley Hayes netted nine points and grabbed five boards, while Paige Shriver tallied three baskets. Oshana Topp added five markers, while Nikki Cunningham contributed four points. Ebert, Tedrow, and Dakota Kuhn each tallied a deuce. Topp also recorded five steals and added three assists, while Tedrow pulled down 12 rebounds and made five steals.

The Lady Hornets will face Magnolia in the Hornets Nest on Feb. 9 with the junior varsity game set for 6 p.m. and the varsity game to follow.
