Hornets Fall Short In Pair Of Contests
The Clay-Battelle Cee-Bees raced out to a dominating 32-10 advantage in the opening period over the Hundred Hornets and didn’t look back, winning 93-44 Jan. 10 inside the Hornets Nest.Rusty Morris scored 23 points, including a pair of baskets from beyond the arc, to pace the Hornets, while Nick Phillips followed with 10 markers. Chris Varner, Greg Stewart, and Kirk Shriver each netted three points and Mitch Moore sank a deuce.
In the junior varsity game, the Cee-Bees exploded to a 34-11 half-time lead and never looked back to win 64-23.
Thomas Preston paced the Hornets with six markers, while Mhar Olayan and Hunter Goddard each tacked on five points. Josh King and Levi Simpson each knocked in a deuce.
“We totally got out played for rebounds, loose balls, and every aspect of the game,” said Hornet Coach Brian Barlett.

Cameron took a 20-8 lead and never looked back in handing Hundred a disappointing 74-23 loss Jan. 12 in Cameron.
Morris paced the Hornets with 10 points, while Shriver netted eight markers; Phillips, three points; and Stewart added two points.
The Hornets will look to lick their wounds and try to redeem themselves against Clay-Battelle Jan. 24 in Blacksville.

Bishop Donahue outscored the Hundred Hornets, 37-5, in the opening period and never looked back in beating Hundred 110-44 in a boys’ basketball contest Jan. 14 in McMechen.
The Hornets played without the services of their top scorer, Rusty Morris, out with a hurt back. Hundred was led by Moore and Shriver with 12 and 11 points, respectively, including three each from beyond the arc to pace Hundred.
Phillips netted two from long range to go along with nine other points, while Varner chipped in with four points. King, Stewart, Preston, and Courtland Armstrong each drilled a deuce.
In the junior varsity game, Bishop Donahue was too much, scoring a 66-25 victory over Hundred. King and Preston each tallied six points, while Armstrong and Hunter Goddard each added four points. Simpson and Levi Morris contributed three and two points, respectively.
“We didn’t take care of the ball, and we need to cherish each possession. Until we do, its going to be a long year,” said Assistant Coach Brian Bartlett.
The Hornets will visit the Lumberjacks Jan. 17 before taking on the Cee-Bees at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24 in Blacksville.
