Pilot Grapplers Win Pair Of Duals To Open Season

The River Pilot Wrestling Team started the 2011-12 season off on a pleasant note, beating Tyler Consolidated 53-12, Dec. 7 in Kidwell, and defeating county rival Monroe Central 49-24, Dec. 9 at RL Potts Gymnasium.

At Tyler Consolidated, the Pilots got pins by Freddie Mundt, 145 lbs; Kole Smith, 160 lbs; Jeff Meredith, 170 lbs; J.D. Dotson, 220 lbs; and Hank Goble, 275 lbs. The Pilots got a technical fall by Jordan Sapp, 152 lbs.; Cody Berry, 120 lbs.; Devin Talbott and Matthew Alleman, 195 lbs. each record wins for River via forfeits.

In the win over the Monroe Central Seminoles, the Pilots recorded pins by Cody Binni, 120 lbs; Talbott; Mundt; Sapp; Meredith; and Goble, while Jared Hinkle, 182 lbs.; and Dotson added a 4-0 decision and a 15-4 decision, respectively, to record River’s second victory of the season in as many matches.

“The kids are working really hard, but we can’t look behind us,” said River Head Wrestling Coach Dr. Vincent Monseau. “We must look forward. The matches were tough and some of the wins could have gone either way.”

The Pilots’ next match is this afternoon with a matinee at 2 p.m. at the Beallsville Blue Devils.
