‘Jills Run Out Of Time
The Cameron Lady Dragons outscored the visiting Valley Lumberjills 30-16 in the first half Dec. 6 and held on for a 47-40 victory.
Cameron extended its lead to 40-24 after three periods, only to watch the the ‘Jills cut the huge Dragon advantage down to within a pair of baskets. But, then they just ran out of time.
“We dug ourselves in a big hole and then battled back only to come up short,” stated Valley Head Coach Lance Binegar.
The much taller Cameron team out-rebounded the youthful ‘Jills 49-28. However, the ‘Jills shot themselves in the foot by missing 19 shots within two feet of the basket. Combined, the two teams had a total of 69 turnovers, with Valley having the upper end, with 35.
The sharp shooting Megan Bucher netted a game-high 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Lumberjills, while Dani Hayes added 10 points and grabbed eight off the glass. In addition, Holli Schell netted four points, while Jessica Ashcraft, Samantha Thomas, and Brittany Sivert each tallied two points.
The ‘Jills missed half of their 22 free throws and only connected on 14-54 shots from the floor. Cameron tallied 20-58 shots and made 6-16 freebies.
