By Staff | Nov 11, 2011

A blocked punt that was picked up for a touchdown and a missed field goal attempt by the Mountaineers was all Louisville needed to win beat 38-35 Nov. 5 in Morgantown.

Geno Smith was 31-44 for 410 yards, three TDs and lost a fumble, while Dustin Garrison accounted for 64 yards on 13 carries. Shawne Alston scored a pair of TDs, while gaining 45 yards on 11 totes. Tavon Austin rushed for 20 yards and caught seven passes for 90 yards, while Stedman Bailey hauled in eight passes for 118 yards and scored a TD.

Louisville was outgained 533-351 in total yards and only had 15 first downs to 28 for the Mounties. However, West Virginia lost two fumbles and punted the ball only three times for a 20-yard average, while the Cardinals punted six times.

The Mountaineers will go on the road Nov. 12 to take on Cincinnati.
