Pilots End Season With 28-8 Victory

By Staff | Nov 2, 2011

Austin McConn rushed for 75 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the River Pilots to a season-ending 27-8 victory over the Frontier Cougars Oct. 28.

The Pilots’ Nick Asturi tallied a 12-yard TD scamper and Devon Knowlton hauled in a 24-yard touchdown pass from Cody Caldwell, while Colton Wright added three extra point kicks.

Caldwell completed 4-6 passes for 64 yards, while Jordan Sapp added 54 yards rushing on eight carries. Asturi accounted for 25 yards on a pair of receptions and scored a touchdown, while Dallas Necessary grabbed a pass for six-yards.

The Pilots ground out 16 first downs, while the Cougars moved the chains nine times. Both teams lost a pair of fumbles.

The Pilots ended the season with a 6-4 record and just narrowly missed the Ohio playoffs. They will lose seven players to graduation, including wide receivers, Knowlton and Zach Caretti; running back, McConn; offensive linemen, Logan Postle; Landon Baker; Rafael Delgado; and center Jeff Meredith.

But, don’t fret, the Pilots return the bulk of their team including their starting quarterback, Cody Caldwell; fullback Nick Asturi; and tailbacks, Jordan Sapp and Jonathan Stewart; linemen, Bret Rosen, Dakota Dunn, JD Dotson, and Evan Eggleston. They also return tight end Garth Richter, receivers Bryce Cross and Dallas Necessary, and kicker Colton Wright.
