Pilots Run Over Zeps, 33-6

By Staff | Oct 19, 2011

River Pilot runningback Jordan Sapp rushed for 112 yards and scored three touchdowns to help lead River to a convincing 33-6 victory over the Shenandoah Zeps Oct. 14 in Sarahsville, Ohio.

The win gave River a 4-4 record on the season with two games remaining on the schedule.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Pilots benefitted by a 22-yard run by Sapp and a 40-yard pitch-and-catch from Cody Caldwell to Jonathan Stewart to take a 13-0 lead. However, the Pilots gave Shenandoah a gift when they failed to bring down a Zep kick returner after the host’s second score.

Pilot senior runningback Austin McConn finished off an impressive Pilot drive with a one-yard TD plunge, and River extended its lead to 20-6 after the Colton Wright conversion kick.

Sapp finished off another nice pair of River scoring drives in the fourth period with a one-yard and a five-yard touchdown scamper.

Sapp totaled 112 yards on 22 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns, while Caldwell accumulated 68 yards rushing and completed a pass to Stewart for 40 yards. McConn and Nick Asturi teamed for 60 yards, while Stewart and Dallas Necessary both tacked on positive yardage.
