Panthers Shutout Hornets
Two mistakes to open the game cost the visiting Hundred Hornets a 36-0 shutout to Hancock Maryland Oct. 15.
The Hornets fumbled the opening kick and Hancock recovered inside the Hornet Red-Zone. On the very next play, Hancock scored.
On its next series, Hundred lost the slippery pigskin on its first handoff and the Panthers picked it up and scored. Within the first three minutes, the Hornets where down 16-0.
During the Hornets’ next drive, they took care of the ball and drove to the Panther 30 yard line before losing the ball on downs.
Hancock scored two more touchdowns in the second half to take a 36-0 lead. Hundred moved the ball well, but fell just a little short before losing on downs. In the state of Maryland, when a team is down by 35 or more points, the clock never stops unless the losing team scores enough points to restore the regular game clock. Hundred tried, but ran out of time.
Thomas Preston paced the Hornets with 105 yards rushing, including a 42 and a 45-yard run. Dylan Murphy added 41 yards on the ground and caught the only Hornet pass for three yards. Mhar Olayan and Chris Varner each added positive yardage for the Hornets.
On defense, Ray Yoho had 10 tackles, five of which went for loss of yardage and included a quarterback sack. Varner, Jade Hains, and Nick Phillips each recorded five tackles.
It doesn’t get any easier for Hundred. They will welcome the Toronto Red Knights Friday, Oct. 21, to Cosgray Field for a 7:30 p.m. start.
