Pilots Win 7-6 Thriller
The Pilots’ Jordan Sapp scored a 53-yard touchdown in the third period and Colton Wright added the point after to secure a 7-6 victory over the homestanding Bridgeport Bulldogs Friday, Oct. 7.
In a defensive battle, a PAT would decide the outcome and it would be the second game-winner by Wright in three weeks.
Sapp paced the Pilots with 137 yards rushing on 16 carries and a touchdown, while Cody Caldwell tacked on 45 yards rushing and 21 passing. Nick Asturi, Jonathan Stewart, and Austin McConn teamed for the rest of the Pilot yardage.
Kameron Brown hauled in three passes for 30 yards, but the other three completions went for negative yardage. The Pilots used a control ground game with 15 first downs to Bridgeport’s nine to pound out the much-deserved victory in hostile territory.
The Pilots will try to keep their playoff hopes alive when they travel to Shenandoah to take on the Zeps at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14.
