Pilots And ‘Cats Collide

Paden City

Lady ‘Cat Amanda Heasley tallied 23 points, 13 kills, six digs, and two blocked shots Oct. 3 in a 25-13, 25-16, and 25-18 win over the Beallsville Blue Devils at Bob Burton Gymnasium.

Dominique Craft followed with 12 points, 11 kills, and seven digs. Graeson Baker and Lynnsie Parsons evenly split 16 markers, while sharing 13 digs. In addition, Haley Hizer responded with 19 points and three digs, while Logan Cosper contributed 82 sets, 22 assists, five digs, and scored three points. Kelsey Loy delivered a trio of kills, while Josie Fox dropped in three digs.

River

River High School’s volleyball setter Annie Turner scored seven points, added two kills, five digs, and had nine assists. But it wasn’t enough to prevent the Fort Frye Lady Cadets from winning, 25-12, 25-10, and 25-9 Oct. 3 at Richard Potts Gymnasium.

Brittany Connors and Dakota Earley teamed for 12 points and pounded three kills, while Hannah Jones recorded 15 digs. Stephanie Murdock added five digs, while Maggie Morrow and Anna Rufener each added three digs. Connors also recorded two service aces for the Pilots.

The Lady Pilots lost a three-set match Oct. 4 to Monroe Central by the scores of 25-17, 25-8, and 25-17 at Richard Potts Gymnasium.

Leslie Young and 2011 Lady Pilot homecoming queen Torey Potts each had monster games at the net with a combined 14 blocks, five kills, and one dig, while Turner recorded seven assists, two kills, and seven digs to lead the Pilot team.

In addition, Brittany Connors smacked four service aces and digs, while recording a kill and a block for the Lady Pilots. Courtney Prout drilled a pair of kills, while Hannah Jones, Murdock, Morrow, and Rufener teamed for 52 digs.

Paden City vs River

The Lady Pilots and the Paden City Lady Cats locked horns Oct. 6 at RL Potts Gymnasium in a very good three-set match that Paden City won, 25-22, 25-20, and 25-19.

Heasley led all scorers with 22 points, including six service aces, while adding with 19 kills and seven digs. Craft contributed 11 points, including one ace, 17 kills, and 10 digs, while Hizer and Baker added 14 and 10 points, respectively. Cosper and Parsons teamed for 17 points, with Cosper contributing 32 assists and nine digs, while Parsons added eight kills and 10 digs. Fox slammed a kill and had three digs.

For the Lady Pilots, Earley tallied 15 points, including a pair of service aces, while Turner added 11 points, two kills, 16 assists, one ace, and four digs to pace the home team.

In addition, Potts added eight points, one ace, seven kills, four digs, and blocked six Wildcat shots at the net. Connors tallied half of her eight points with service aces and contributed two digs and one kill. Young was strong at the net for the Lady Pilots, adding five kills and four blocks, while teammates Jones, Morrow, Murdock, and Rufener teamed up for 23 digs in a match that could have gone either way.

Paden City, ranked first in OVAC Class-A, will take on the number four seed, Morgantown Trinity, in the OVAC volleyball playoffs at Brooke High School Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. Immediately following that match, the winner will play second seed Weirton Madonna or third seed Bellaire St. John for the OVAC Championship.
