Lumberjills Defeat Irish; Lose To Bishops And Devils

On Oct. 3, in a tri-match, the Valley Lumberjills defeated Notre Dame in two straight sets, 25-23 and 25-20, before falling in three sets to Bishop Donahue.

Against Notre Dame, eight different VHS players scored and contributed with outstanding volleyball. Leading the way for the ‘Jills was Brittany Sivert with 11 points, while Jessica Ashcraft added 10 points and 30 sets. Hannah Loy and Alison Haught each tallied nine points, while Heather Quinn netted eight points. Kaitlyn Midcap netted four points, with Justine Miller and Brooke Staley each contributing three points.

Sivert had four service aces, while Loy and Staley netted three and Haught had two. Ashcraft, Quinn, and Miller had an ace apiece.

At the net, Quinn smacked eight spikes, while Haught added six, Sivert spiked five, Loy delivered on four, and Ashcraft two.

Haught had a team-high five digs, while Sivert, Loy, Ashcraft, Quinn, Midcap, Staley, and Miller each recorded three digs.

Against Bishop Donahue, Loy had a game-high 17 points that included five service aces, while Haught netted a dozen markers that included four aces. Valley won the first set, 25-20, but lost the next two sets, 17-25 and 15-25, to lose the match.

Sivert and Ashcraft each tallied 11 points, with Ashcraft adding 30 sets and Sivert contributing three kills and three digs.

In addition, Quinn and Midcap teamed for nine points and six digs, while Haught, Quinn, Staley, and Miller each recorded a pair of digs

In a duel match against the powerful Beallsville Blue Devils on Oct. 6 in Pine Grove, the ‘Jills lost 25-8, 25-16, and 25-9. Sivert paced the ‘Jills with eight points, including a service ace, two kills, one block, and five digs. Haught netted five points, two blocks, and two kills, while Loy netted five points, four digs, and two blocks.
