Lady Eagles Piling Up Wins

After dropping its first set 26-28, the Magnolia Blue Eagle netters ransacked the Weir Red Riders at Tyler Consolidated High School in a tri-match Oct. 4. They then wiped the Riders off the court in two straight sets, 25-13 and 25-18, at Tyler Consolidated High School.

Lauren Cline paced the Lady Eagles with 41 assists and scored eight points from her serving spot. MHS teammate Emily Clegg led all scorers with 17 points, including three perfectly-placed serves that went as aces. Back-line specialist Makenzie Dawson tallied 14 points and added as many digs for the Blue and Gold.

In addition, Emily Blake added 10 points and jacked seven kills, while Mallory Chapman and Jordan Babe each netted nine points. Chapman had a game-high 13 kills, while Babe followed with 10 kills. Chapman also added 13 digs, while Babe was sufficient at the net with a pair of Rider blocks.

In a matchup with Oak Glen, the Lady Eagles hung in there until the very end where they fell, 25-18 and 25-23. Blake had a team-high 11 points, while Cline added eight markers. Chapman and Babe teamed to score nine points and 12 kills, with Chapman adding a team-high nine digs and Babe blocked three Golden Bear shots.

In the finale, Magnolia raced out to a 19-25 victory before dropping the next two sets, 25-15 and 25-12.

Cline played an outstanding match with 40 assists, while scoring nine points to lead the Eagles. Blake scored a team-high 10 points and added four kills. Clegg and Dawson each netted nine points, while Babe contributed eight points, including three service aces. Chapman ended the Blue scoring with six markers, while adding four kills and a game-high 17 digs.

Magnolia played four volleyball matches in the Parkersburg South Fall Brawl Oct. 8, winning three and losing one.

Against Parkersburg South, the Lady Eagles won the first set, 25-19, but lost 24-26 to set up a 25-19 Magnolia victory in the third set.

Clegg tallied 18 points, including four service aces, three kills, and a pair of assists to pace Magnolia in the victory. Dawson scored 15 points, five aces, and seven digs, while Chapman netted a baker’s dozen, including a pair of aces, while adding nine kills, eight digs, three assists, and a block. Babe rocked the Parkersburg Gymnasium with 17 kills, while adding 11 points and two blocks.

In addition, Cline and Blake teamed for 17 points, with Cline adding 39 assists and Blake 17 digs and four kills.

In the next match, the Eagles disposed of Weir in straight sets, 25-13 and 25-23. Eighteen service aces, between six Eagle players, keyed the win for the Lady Eagles. Babe recorded a game-high five service aces and 19 points, while adding nine kills, three blocks, and two assists to pace the red-hot Lady Eagles.

Blake and Clegg each tallied 13 points, three service aces, and three kills, while sharing 15 digs. Chapman tallied 10 points, four aces, 11 digs, 14 kills, three blocks, and had three assists in an all-around fine performance.

In addition, Cline and Dawson teamed for 16 points, with Cline adding 43 assists and Dawson 10 digs.

In the third match with the Brooke Bruins, the Lady Eagles had eight service aces in a 25-17 and a 25-21 victory. Clegg paced Magnolia with a dozen points, including a pair of service aces, while Babe and Dawson teamed for 22 points. Babe added eight kills and two blocks, while Dawson added a pair of nice digs.

In addition, Chapman, Blake and Cline each recorded six points, with Blake netting three service aces and Chapman adding two. Chapman also added seven digs, six kills, and two blocks, while Cline contributed 34 assists, and Blake 14 digs.

Off the bench, Audrey Gibb netted a point off her serve, while adding three digs, and Kiera Standiford contributed a kill.

In the finale, the Lady Eagles were just worn out and lost to Weir, 25-13 and 25-23. Cline was the lone Eagle in double figures with 13 points and 28 assists. Clegg pounded out nine points, while Babe and Blake each netted seven points. Dawson tallied three markers and Chapman scored two points.

Babe blocked two shots and had a team-high 10 kills, while Chapman recorded thee kills and four blocks. Blake and Dawson teamed for 13 digs.
