Eagle Golfers Complete Season
To open the 2011 high school golf season, the Magnolia Blue Eagles competed in the OVGL at Beallsville Aug. 5, winning eight and losing five matches in an 18-hole match. Tyler Myers and Brantley Hissom each paced the Eagles with an 88 total, while Brandon Fluharty and Jake Starkey followed with a 96 and 100, respectively.
On Aug. 9 at Clair-Mar Course in Powhatan, Magnolia won four matches and lost one. Myers paced the Blue Eagles with a nine-hole tally of 44, while Alex Pancake tallied a 48. Hissom and Brett Brill each recorded a 51.
Magnolia returned to Clair-Mar the next night to lose one and win one, as Fluharty led the way with a nine-hole 46 score. Pancake had his putter working and cashed in on a 48 score. Brill scored a 51 and Hissom ended up with a 52.
At Salt Fork on Aug. 16, Magnolia won one and lost two. Myers earned top honors with a 42, while Brill finished with a 53; Fluharty and Starkey each recorded a 57 total.
On Aug.12 at the Beallsville Country Club, Magnolia won four matches and didn’t lose any. Pancake led the way with a 44, while Myers added a 45; Fluharty a 47, Brill a 49, and Pancake shot a 50.
In a home match at Riverside in Sardis on Aug. 18, the Eagles lost all four matches. Myers shot a team-low 45; Fluharty, 47; Brill, 49; and Pancake, a 50 total.
In Moundsville on Aug. 19, the Eagles won two and lost one match. Hissom scored a 42; Pancake, 44; Starkey 49; and Myers tallied 51.
On Aug. 24 at Sistersville Country Club, Fluharty was on his game with a team-low 40, while Hissom turned in a 41; Myers, a 42; and Brill, a 44.
In the second half of the season, the Eagles won one match and lost two at the Williams Country Club in Weirton. Myers tallied a team-low 42; Fluharty a 48; Pancake a 49; and Hissom a 51.
On Aug. 31 at the Crispin Golf Course in Wheeling, Magnolia lost two and won one as Pancake paced the Eagles with a team-low 41, while Myers added a 42; Fluharty, a 44; and Brill, a 45 total.
Magnolia opened Sept. 1 with three wins and a loss at Riverside, to push their record to 29-20 on the season. Myers tallied a team-low 45; Brill, 50; Starkey, 53; and Hissom, a 59.
The home course at Riverside has been good to the Eagles of late, winning three and losing one Sept. 8. Myers led the way with a 40; Pancake, a 43; Hissom, a 45; and Brill, a 51.
In th early morning hours of Sept. 15 at Crispin, in the Class-AAA championships, Myers scored an 18-hole 81 and just missed making all-OVAC by one stroke. Hissom followed with a 96; Pancake and Fluharty each recorded a 98 score.
On Sept. 15 evening, at Riverside, the Eagles won one and lost a pair, as Hissom paced Magnolia with a 42; Myers, 43; Fluharty, a 48; and Brill, a 49.
On Sept. 19 in the OVGL Post Tournament in Moundsville, the Eagles claimed eight victories and lost five as Myers shot a sizzling 89 in an 18-hole tournament. Pancake, Fluharty, and Brill, each shot a 95.
In the last regular season match, at Sistersville Country Club on Parents Night, Magnolia won two and lost one to push its regular season record to 46-32.
Myers was the team’s medalist with a score of 36, while Pancake shot a 43. Brill and Starkey each finished with a 44 tally.
In the regionals at Williams Country Club in Weirton Sept. 26, the Eagles won four and lost three as Myers shot a team-low 84; Fluharty, 92; and Pancake a 96.
