Three MHS?Grads To Be Recognized At Banquet
A trio of student-athletes from the 1980’s decade will be among honorees at the 26th annual Magnolia Athletic Boosters Life Achievement Awards Banquet.
The fete will be held on Aug. 6 at Magnolia High School and is open to the public. A social hour starts at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m.

The honorees, with graduation class and hometown, include James Blatt (1980) of New Martinsville, Amy Jones Boles (1982) of Washington, W.Va., and Christopher Marshall (1988) of Matthews, N.C.
Background on each of the honorees include:
BLATT–At Magnolia, he was a four-year athlete in basketball, track, and cross country. At the 1980 W.Va. Class AA Track Meet in Charleston, he placed fifth in the 800 meter run and was a member of the third place 4×800 relay unit. He also was a member of the National Honor Society
He graduated from West Virginia Tech in Mechanical Engineering and was a member of Pi Tau Sigma engineering honorary.
Blatt has worked the last 24 years as an engineer at Bayer Corporation and is very active with local community and school functions. He serves as a game announcer and team statistician for school basketball and football. Chairman of the Rotary Boys Basketball Challenge, He’s also a founding member and officer of the Magnolia Roundballers, a youth basketball coach and summer league girls coach, and a New Martinsville Junior Baseball officer. In addition, he volunteers at local high school sporting events.
Married to the former Claire Myslinsky, they are the parents of four children.
BOLES–She was a four-year member of the Blue Eagle track team and competed one year in volleyball. She also was a four-year member of the Magnolia band.
A cum laude graduate of West Virginia University in physical therapy, she has been a physical therapist in the Parkersburg area since 1987 and has served as a clinical instructor.
Active in school and local sports programs, she has been a home school teacher and co-op leader as well as serving as a classroom reader and member of the Parent Teachers’ Association. She’s also active with the boosters of football, soccer, swimming, and track for Parkersburg South High School.
She also has worked with the local scout programs.
Boles and husband Trent are the parents of four sons.
MARSHALL–A four-year football player at Magnolia, he also competed two years in track and one year in basketball. Active in school organizations, he was a member of the Young Men’s Union, Varsity Club, All State Drama, Medical Careers Club, Mark Committee, and a four-year homeroom officer.
He graduated from WVU?with a Nursing degree and recently joined the Johnson & Johnson Corporation after working in pharmaceutical and medical device sales and as a registered nurse in the Charlotte area.
Marshall also volunteers as a Pop Warner football coach and has been a youth coach in baseball and softball.
He’s a member of the Matthews United Methodist Church Mission Group. He and wife Beth are the parents of two children.
