The Lady Hornets improved to 7-8 with a 64-45 victory over Jefferson-Morgan Feb. 2 at the Hornets Nest.
Jordyn Gorby continues her offensive assault on opposing teams with a 24-point performance. Raven McDiffitt swished the cords with 19 tallies, while Macy Woods netted a solid 12 markers. Nancy Cumberledge contributed five points for the hosts, while Hayley Hayes and Chelsea Kuhn each netted two points.
The Lady Hornets will look to knockoff the undefeated Lady Bishops of Bishop Donahue at the Hornets Nest Feb. 5 before playing in the Mason-Dixon Conference Night of Champions at Bishop Donahue Sat. against a team and a time TBA.
Paden City, 76
Beallsville, 63
The Paden City Wildcats jumped out to a 21-9 advantage after eight minutes of non-stop Wildcat action and four ‘Cats hit in double figures to help the ‘Cats to a 76-63 victory over the visiting Beallsville Blue Devils Feb. 2.
Paden City’s Fab-4 of Ryan Thoburn, Ricky Wright, Malakai Anderson, and Wes Cosper accounted for 68 of the ‘Cats 76 points, with Thoburn leading the way with 21 points, including a three pointer. Wright bombarded the nets with three baskets from beyond the arc, on his way to a 20-point night. Anderson had another outstanding performance at the point. He scored a double-double with 15 points and 12 assists, while hauling in five boards and stealing five Blue Devil passes. Cosper knocked down all five shots he took from the floor, including two triples, while scoring a dozen. Chris Loy tallied four markers, while Ronnie Blatt and Jason Yost each netted two points.
Weather permitting the Wildcats will play five games this week, that will include a home game with Cameron Wednesday; a Senior Night home match with Jefferson Christian Friday, and another game with Beallsville Saturday, away with each varsity contest starting around 7:15 p.m.
Bishop Donahue, 71
Valley, 56
The Bishop Donahue Bishops increased their 29-15 half time total to a 54-32 after three periods and held off a gallant Valley Lumberjack comeback for a 71-56 victory Feb. 2 in Pine Grove.
Ronald Morris connected on four baskets from beyond the arc on his way to a 20 point game, while Alex Henderson followed with 16 markers, that including a three pointer to lead the ‘Jacks. Matt Poling netted five markers, while Coleman, Garrett, and Clay Ueltschy each netted four points. Jeremiah Burch contributed three points off the bench for the Valley Lumberjacks.
The Lumberjacks will continue their search for win number two when the host Clay-Battelle Feb. 5 with a 6 p.m. junior varsity tip-off.
