Lumberjacks, ‘Jills, Lady Pilots, And Wildcats Each Earn Victories

Valley, 68,

Hundred 48

The Valley High Lumberjacks traveled cross county last Tuesday to renew the rivalry with the Hundred Hornets on the basketball hardwoods. The Lumberjacks outlasted the Hornets 68-48, despite a run pulling the home team within six points at the end of the third quarter.

Hayden Lancaster finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds, four steals, and two assists to lead the Lumberjacks. Tyler Hayes had a game-high 19 points including five three-pointers and Tristen Kocher added 17 points for the Lumberjacks.

Rusty Morris led the Hornets with 18 points. Kirk Shriver and Brandon Armstrong chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Valley has won four of its last six games to improve to 5-7 on the season, while Hundred's record falls to 2-7. The Hornets have lost four of the last five games.

The Hornets will travel to Valley on Feb. 20 for the second of two games this season. Tip-off will be at 7:30 p.m.

Lady 'Jills 53,

Harman 27

Karissa Headley, Megan Bucher, and Alisha Carter each tallied 11 points to lead the Valley Lumberjills to a 53-27 victory over Harman in the second game of the Hometown Invitational Tournament hosted Jan 19 by Valley.

Samantha Thomas and Erin "Twiggy" Brown both netted six points, while Maddison Arnold tacked on four points. Brooke Brown and Sarah Bassett each tossed in a deuce.

The Lady 'Jills' next game is Jan. 24 at East Richland and they will host Wood County Jan. 28, with both games scheduled for a 6 p.m. tip-off.

Lady Pilots 60,

St. Clairsville 48

The red-hot Lady Pilots used a 13-2 first quarter lead and coasted to a 60-48 victory over the St. Clairsville Lady Red Devils in St. Clairsville Jan. 19.

Laken Ramsay and Cassidy McCullough teamed for 40 of the Pilots' 60 points, while Jensen Caretti penciled in 15 markers. In addition, Haylee Bowers and Leslie Young netted three and two points, respectively.

The Lady Pilots will host the Caldwell Redskins Tuesday night before entertaining Shenandoah Jan. 24 with the junior varsity tip scheduled for 6 p.m. and the varsity to follow.

Lady Dragons 37,

Hornets 31

In a low-scoring affair, Cameron would gain a 37-31 victory over the Lady Hornets Jan. 17 at Cameron High School.

Katie Tennant netted a team-high 10 points, while Emily Ebert netted six markers. Paige Shriver and Josie Phillips each netted two baskets, while Lindsay Jones cashed in on three free throws and Ashley Miller added a point.

The Lady Hornets will host Clay-Battelle Jan. 24 with the varsity game scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

St. Marys 70,

Valley 52

The St. Marys Boys' Basketball Team doubled up the Valley Lumberjacks 28-14 in the opening period Jan. 18 and never looked back in winning 70-52 Jan. 18 in the boys' opener of the H.I.T. held in St. Marys.

Trey Streets scored a team-high 17 points for the Lumberjacks, including a trio of baskets from downtown, while Tristen Kocher tacked on a Bakers Dozen.

In addition, Tyler Hayes contributed six points, while Jack Wells netted five markers. Jordan Anderson and Peyton Palmer each provided four points, while Hayden Lancaster swished a triple.

Paden City 75,

Harman 48

Paden City's Zach Heasley scored a game-high 28 points that included six bonus bombs to lead his team to a 75-48 victory over Harman in boys' basketball action Jan. 18 in Wildcat territory.

Kennedy Cain and Luke Cooper each recorded double-doubles for the Wildcats. Cain netted 17 points and 11 rebounds, while dishing out eight assists. Cooper netted 15 points, grabbed 10 off the glass, and recorded eight assists.

In addition, Brandon Cross dropped in nine markers, while Craig Allen, Kane Pyles, and Logan Carroll each swished a deuce.

The Wildcats will play Trinity Morgantown at Magnolia High School Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. in the first-ever Public Schools versus Private School showdown.
