‘Jacks Net 95 In Victory Over Harman Panthers

Dragons Nip Lumberjacks

January 9, 2013
Wetzel Chronicle

The Valley Lumberjacks beat up on the Harman Panthers 95-66 in boys' basketball action Jan. 5 at Harman High School.

Led by the "Three Ts" -- Tristen Kocher, Tyler Hayes, and Troy Hubbard -- Valley would race out to a 20-12 lead after one period of play and would go into the locker room with a 42-31 advantage. The hot shooting of Jack Wells, who pumped in eight markers, helped lift the Lumberjacks.

In the third period, the teams scored a total of 44 points, as the Harman nets were on fire and the 'Jacks ripped the cords with 29 points. Kocher led the way with 11 points in the quarter, while Hayden Lancaster netted a threeball, a deuce, and a charity toss to give Valley a comfortable 71-46 lead heading into the final stanza.

The 'Jacks' Tucker Cain came off the bench to tally five baskets, including a pair of three-point baskets and a charity toss, while Joey Preat ripped the cords with three deuces and a freebie to give the Lumberjacks the win.

Kocher and Wells each recorded a double-double, with Kocher compiling 10 points and 14 rebounds, while Wells contributed 12 points and hauled in 11 boards.

In addition, Trey Streets provided nine markers, while Cain added a Baker's Dozen. Hubbard, Lancaster, and Jordan Anderson evenly split 24 points, while Hayes and Preat each tacked on seven markers. Colton Ring finished the Lumberjack scoring with three points.

"It was nice to see the boys score 94 points," said veteran Valley Head Coach John Kocher. "But we gave up 66 points. If we want to continue to pound the ball and score, we must still be able to shuffle our feet and play good old fashioned basketball, too."

It doesn't get any easier as the Lumberjacks, who will stay on the road, will tangle with the Beallsville Blue Devils Jan. 11 at 6 p.m.

Cameron 67, Valley 54

The Cameron Dragons outscored the Valley Lumberjacks in every period but one to gain a 67-54 victory Jan. 3 in Pine Grove.

Lumberjacks Trey Streets and Jack Wells teamed for 33 points, that included four baskets from beyond the arc, while Kyle Lancaster netted nine points to lead the Valley charge.

In addition, Tristen Kocher pumped in six markers, while Troy Hubbard, Peyton Palmer, and Ryan Lemley each contributed a deuce.

Wells had a monster game. Besides his double digit scoring, he posted 10 rebounds, made six steals, and blocked five shots.
