ST. MARYS, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia authorities say an Ohio man survived a car crash in Pleasants County late Wednesday only to be struck and killed by another car.
State Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous says 39-year-old Ben Gabriel of Athens, Ohio, was heading north on W.Va. 2 in Pleasants County when he apparently lost control of his vehicle, went about 50 feet over an embankment and slammed into a tree. Baylous said Gabriel was able to get out of the car before it caught on fire.
The Charleston Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/15JltwE) that Gabriel began walking along W.Va. 2 for about a quarter of a mile when he was apparently struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver.
