To the Editor:

We live in South Carolina and my mom called all of the troops home for Christmas this year. Upon sitting down with my mom, after unpacking the car, she gave me the best present: In His Own Words-a book about a wonderful guy!

I can honestly say I am honored to have known Billy Stewart. West Virginia will never, ever have a better ambassador. I am so thrilled that this book was written, and written so well. But then, how could anything be written bad about Billy! I remember some older guy making the statement “The only bad thing Coach Stew ever did was sing off-key in church. He loved West Virginia. I’m sure when he was cut, he bled blue and gold. Never ever will you find a truer friend, an more honest guy, a better son, a better brother, a more loving husband, or a more proud Dad.

It’s been tough thinking about how badly this guy was treated. Billy never intentionally hurt anyone, and what Oliver Luck did to him is unforgivable. There’s no doubt that my friend Billy died of a broken heart. So this was the best Christmas, because this wonderful book was written about my friend Billy Stewart, and Oliver Luck resigned! Billy is looking down and saying “sometimes paybacks really do happen!” God bless you Bill Stewart-you were a wonderful role model from the little town of New Martinsville. You did us proud!

P.S. You know the little WV decals that are on so many autos in W.Va, are there because of Coach Stew!
