Being a self-confessed sweet-tooth, I was delighted to read the school board member’s suggestion to extend more appreciation to our teachers who report to work on snow days by providing them doughnuts and cookies.
However, the taxpayers in the county should seriously consider the financial burden such purchases would place on the board’s limited resources before rushing to the bakery at Walmart-which as noted in the article remains open without fail.
Perhaps it would be appropriate to put forth a “Doughnut Levy” for the voters to decide this delicate (and delicious) matter themselves? Alternatively, the superintendent and board members could all chip in personally for the chocolate chip cookies.
