From Tammy Workman

By Staff | Nov 28, 2012

American Legion Auxiliary, Marne unit 28, New Martinsville, wishes to thank New Martinsville School for accepting our unit volunteers. We extend special appreciation to Mrs. Batton and the second grade teachers for accepting us into your classrooms. ALA unit 28 members Tammy Williams and Tammy Workman enjoyed sharing with the students the history of Veterans Day, and how that day came to include a no-school day. Our Americanism program also included the history of the Flanders’ Field Poppy, and how it came to represent our veterans. The ladies enjoyed hearing stories from the students of veterans in their families.

New Martinsville School has joined ALA unit 28 in their “Treats for Troops” project. It is our aim to help boost morale of our deployed troops through the holiday season; by sending them care packages filled with goodies from home. The students will also color or draw pictures, and write letters to our deployed troops.

Everyone is welcome to contribute to the collection. You can drop donations at Marne Post 28 or New Martinsville School. For more information or to make other arrangements, call 304-815-2308. The first tentative mailing date will be Dec. 6.
