From Karen Mitchell
To the editor:
As a library volunteer at the New Martinsville School for the last six years, I feel very fortunate that the school has had the dedication of librarian Jeanie Deem. She has not only overseen the library facilities of grades K-8, but has also conducted classes for grades K-5.
She has taught library skills, read and added appropriate books, updated the Accelerated Reader program, and assisted teachers and students in addition to overseeing audio-visual needs. It has been a Herculean effort as she has taken on the duties previously shared with a library aide.
This is going to be a difficult task for the aide who will “replace” her. My question is: how can one person possibly go into this position when every other elementary school has one aide for many fewer students?
Sincerely,
Karen Mitchell
