Christmas- A Time to Reflect

As the holiday season quickly approaches, it is a time of reflection for many. A time to remember family, friends, and the greatest gift of life. I would like to take this opportunity to thank some wonderful people and organizations that give handicapped youth and adults some very special opportunities, as well as the non-handicapped individuals who assist with these programs.

I would like to say thank you to the Simpson United Methodist Church in Moundsville, along with Carolyn Dalzell and Mary Ann Goodrich for the Something Special Program. This program offers socialization, dances, crafts, etc. to name just a few, and also thanks to Wheeling Jesuit’s Health and Wellth student volunteers who offer assistance to the Something Special Group, as well as cooking, walking, and nutrition clubs and who sponsor many of the dances.

I would like to say thank you to Easter Seals and Lorraine McCardle for getting the Miracle League Baseball started in the Ohio Valley area. This gives individuals an opportunity to play baseball who may have otherwise never gotten to play.

I would especially like to thank the anonymous person, who, several years ago, sent a gift when our financial situation was quite bleak. You made my son’s Christmas a much happier one and on those gifts I simply put “From a friend of Jesus”.

In my life, I have made mistakes and struggled and even paid dearly for some things that I should have not, but those circumstances have made me a stronger person and no longer fearful of what may or may not happen, because through the strife has come a greater sense of trust and love for God! He has blessed me with the gift of spending my life with a wonderful human being.

In closing, I would like to ask that you be mindful of the handicapped accessible restrooms while shopping. Yes, they are much roomier but they may be needed by someone in a wheelchair or someone who needs assistance from another person in the stall.

I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and God Bless You!
