The Passing of Paden City Mayor
Paden City lost a good man last week with the passing of Mayor Marc “Rick” Casteel. He was a proud Paden City resident, who grew up in the community and attended Paden City schools.
Rick had a passion for Paden City and just last June was elected Mayor of the town.
He was very proud of his home town and told me he learned a lot about how to run the Mayor’s office by listening to his dad who was a former city councilman and member of the Park and Pool commission. His mother was also involved with the community as president of the Paden City Development Authority a few years back.
Rick was working hard to bring the community back together after years of in house squabbles.
He was actively involved with the park and pool commission and had big plans to expand the campground, get the swimming pool in good shape, work on the restrooms in the park, and add lighting to the walking trail. His goal was to clean up the town, help attract business and make it a place people would always be proud to call home.
Rick was succeeding, he was working with everyone on council and in city government, and had recently met with U.S. Senator Shelly Capito who visited the town.
He was an upfront type of guy who would tell you one way or another whether he could help you. You could count on him telling you the truth. Most of the time if you didn’t like it he’d just say “get over it.” I think that was the best thing about him, we need more people like that.
As a U.S. Veteran we thank him for his service to his country and to his hometown community. It will be hard to replace him!
