Help Your Neighbor

As we stated in our front page article, the turnout at Thursday’s flood relief fundraiser for Hundred and Pine Grove areas was modest. We are grateful $11,000 has been raised since the benefit was announced, but it is disappointing that more people did not show up. The cost was a mere $10 at the door, and the benefit lasted two short hours.

We understand that some people might have been turned off from the event due to the fact that it benefited businesses. But Wetzel County residents work in these businesses. This is how they make a living. Their paychecks will be going toward rebuilding their homes that were devastated by the floods of July 28-29. It’s safe to say that if the businesses don’t recover, the town won’t recover.

We understand a football game was happening Thursday night, and that there are sometimes scheduling conflicts. But even if you didn’t make it Thursday night, would you still consider donating anyway? Give the chamber a call at 304-455-3825 to inquire about donating. Or, stop by at 201 Main Street in New Martinsville.

Despite the empty seats Thursday night, let’s show our friends that our hearts are with them. Together, we are strongest.
