Remembering Henry Parsons
Wetzel County has lost a true gem when Henry Parsons passed away last week.
Though we didn’t know the county surveyor on a personal level, he did leave an impact on us.
This past election season he stopped by the Chronicle, requesting information on how to submit his candidacy announcement to the paper.
Though Parsons had his title for several decades prior, and didn’t appear to be in any danger of losing his job, he felt he owed the people of the county an announcement, to ask for their votes.
His announcement thanked the county for their support, and he had noted that he truly enjoyed his work.
Truly, Parsons’ contributions to his community were many. Besides 44 years of being our county surveyor, he taught at Paden City High School, was employed by PPG, was a part of several organizations, and more.
He didn’t just serve his county either. He served his country as well. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and the National Guard.
Now the county has to begin the task of figuring out how to fill Parsons’ position. Regardless of how the new surveyor will be chosen, there is no doubt that he or she will have big shoes to fill.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Parsons’ loved ones.
