The Cost of Freedom

By Staff | May 31, 2017

Many of us mark Memorial Day in similar ways.

We visit local cemeteries where our loved ones have been put to rest. We travel to family gatherings, and we partake in cookouts. We bask in a day off from work, and we enjoy the unofficial start to summer.

The photos on our front page were taken at local Memorial Day observances. What do these images mean to you?

There is, of course, nothing wrong with cookouts and family gatherings, enjoying the warmer days. We have the freedom to do such.

Do we consider the cost of that freedom though?

So many brave men and women have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. They shed blood, breathed their last breaths.

They sacrificed their lives so that we can have freedom everyday, not just Memorial Day.

May we take the time to reflect on the cost of freedom, not just Memorial Day.

May we never take our freedom for granted.
