Protect the Innocent

By Staff | Apr 6, 2016

For the month of April, the Wetzel Chronicle will be featuring a guest column written by Susan Scharf, Executive Director of the Lighthouse Child Advocacy Center. Scharf will be sharing her wealth of information and resources with readers as we recognize National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

The statistics are very much alarming. Not counting physical abuse, one out of every 10 children will be sexually abused before the age of 18. Sixty percent of child sexual abuse victims never tell anyone.

These statistics add up to countless numbers of children whose innocence has been lost forever.

There is punishment for those convicted of these heinous acts, yet justice is never truly served.

Memories can never be erased from a child’s mind.

We hope Susan Scharf’s columns this month will shed some light on the signs of abuse and what you can do should you suspect it. Together we can make a difference – together we can help to protect the innocent.
