Unfortunate That Teachers Must Train for Violence
The teachers of Wetzel County Schools recently received ALICE training from local law enforcement officers. ALICE, which stands for “Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate, serves as a guide of what to do if an active shooter enters the school while students are in class.
While this is a great exercise in preparation, it is also a sad thought that our teachers have to prepare for something like this. Incidents at Columbine, Virginia Tech and Sandy Hook show that these events can happen, and that measures are needed to prevent deaths.
While ALICE is not a fool-proof plan to prevent incidents like this, it certainly will give teachers and staff a better plan for protecting their students.
