Nice to See Community Show Support for Stevens

By Staff | Sep 23, 2015

In recent weeks, there has been much debate about the topic of Hundred resident and student Roy Stevens’ education. It’s upsetting to see a family have to fight so hard to keep their child in school. One thing that it has clearly shown is how the students and residents in small communities will come together and support one of their own.

In the weeks leading up to Roy withdrawing from school, students peacefully protested outside of Hundred High School. Several went before the school board in hopes of changing the minds of the board members. Even though this method proved unsuccessful, these students still made the effort. They have shown great maturity to stand up for what they believe in and not giving up.

These students have rallied around Roy long before his education became an issue. They have shown what it means to be a friend, and to be a community. Residents beyond Wetzel County have taken notice, and have shown a tremendous amount of support for Roy. While the situation appears to have run its course without the outcome the Stevens family had hoped for, the parents, students and residents of this tight community will no doubt continue to support Roy and his family.
