Chamber Taking Great Strides
The Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce is taking great strides in providing events and helping the community. Newly promoted Executive Director Sharon Thomas has hit the ground running is working to make introduce new programs and activities. Along with the new activities, the chamber will bring back many of favorites.
These activities are to promote community outreach and to bring people together. The Wetzel Chronicle and the Tyler Star News want to commend the chamber and Thomas for the hard work. These community events are months in the making and require a lot of effort from everyone involved.
While the chamber intends on bringing back some of the many favorites like the 16th Annual Chili Fest, there are so new additions. One of the new events is the inaugural Christmas Decorating Contest. The contest will include residential and commercial decorations. Since it is the first year, the residential contest will just include New Martinsville area. The commercial decorations include Wetzel, Tyler and Monroe County.
The residential subcategories include religious, nostalgic, simply elegant and Christmas vacation. All entries are due by Nov. 20. All judging will take place from Dec. 1-4 from 5 to 9 p.m. The winner will be announced on Dec. 5 following the Christmas Parade at the Christmas Tree Lighting. Please send a complete form and an entry fee of $5. The parade will begin at 6 p.m.
There will also a Christmas Tree Decorating Contest where local businesses will decorate a tree and residents will have a chance to vote on it. More information on this event can be found in the chamber office.
