For The Amendment

By Staff | Oct 22, 2014

We believe the amendment to the West Virginia Constitution that is on the general election ballot is a good thing. It is written so specifically that it is doubtful it would ever apply to any facility other than the Summit Bechtel Reserve in Fayette County, owned by the Boy Scouts of America.

The measure would allow them to keep their property tax exemption while still hosting for-profit events. This means they can bring even more visitors into our wonderful state, hopefully boosting our economy-not only during that one event, but for return visits in years to come. It is a unique arrangement for a unique facility. West Virginia needs to capitalize on this opportunity as much as possible. Read more about the proposal on page 12A.
