It is sad to see the closure of the Burton Post Office, or any such public service, but we understand that some cuts need to be made to help the U.S. Postal Service to become financially sound.

It just doesn’t make sense to have a post office located just two miles from another. Even if customers don’t have a car to drive, two miles really isn’t even that far to have to walk occasionally.

Sure, it’s sentimental. Burton postal customers are accustomed to their office, maybe even seeing it as a center of the community where neighbors meet, but it just isn’t feasible anymore.

Now we’ll look to see the USPS’s decision on the fate of the Folsom and Smithfield outlets as well. Stay tuned.
