Betty Jean was raised in Markleysburg, Pennsylvania on a small farm with her sister Eileen, with whom she enjoyed many adventures and a life-long bond. Almost every Sunday afternoon the family would attend large family gatherings with extended family and friends.

Betty graduated from Uniontown High School and soon thereafter married Richard W. Harvey of Swanton, Maryland. The couple moved to Morgantown, West Virginia where their daughter, Cyndra Lynn Harvey, and son, Kenneth Wayne Harvey, were born.

Eventually the family made its way to South Charleston, West Virginia where their daughter, Rosella June Harvey, was born. While living in South Charleston Betty was a Girl Scout Leader and active in the Jaycees.

In 1973 the family moved to New Martinsville, West Virginia, where Betty lived for the next 50+ years. During this time Betty earned a degree from WVNCC, continued sharing her excellent seamstress skills, and prepared many pots of chili and pans of Texas sheet cake–her signature dishes. Betty continued with civic involvement. She was an amazing homeroom mother.

Betty enjoyed travelling with her family and friends and was featured in a AAA magazine article on women travelers. She visited state number 50 on her 75th birthday.

Betty steadfastly supported her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was devoted to her church and friends. She bore many titles well–Mama Betty, G-ma Betty, Aunt Betty, and Great Friend Betty. Everyone will miss her.

Betty was predeceased by her husband, Richard Wayne Harvey and granddaughter Samantha Jane Harvey. She is survived by her sister, Cora Eileen Laub Augustine, her children, Cyndra Harvey Van Clief (Alan Sterling Van Clief), Kenneth Wayne Harvey (Irene Harvey) and Rosella June Harvey (Ronald Austin Street), grandchildren Josh Miller (Cassie Miller) Kenneth Brandon Harvey (Celena Harvey), Sarah Elizabeth Harvey Graham, Thomas Augustus Van Clief (Micheala Van Clief), Rachael Sterling Van Clief (Christopher Bates), Nickellis Charles Harvey (Brianna Harvey), Mary Cornelia Van Clief Manarin (Garrett Brock Manarin), Marcus Carroll Van Clief, and Laura Auburn Harvey, and great-grandchildren Scarlett Miller, Samantha Jane Graham, John Graham, Vivian Maria Van Clief, Axl William Harvey, and Amber Lee Van Clief.
