Marcella Valette Blount (Garrett)
Marcella Valette Blount (Garrett), a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025 at the age of 88 at her son’s residence in Rockfield, KY.
Born in Wileyville, West Virginia on July 18, 1936 to Wilbert and Naomi Garrett, she will be remembered for her love, care, and devotion to family. Marcella is survived by her siblings Karis Garrett and Lori Prater; children Melody Bohrer and Douglas Blount; grandchildren Leah Senecal, Shyla Bohrer, Owen, Oliver, and Olivia Blount; and great-grandchildren Hayden and Raegen Senecal, and Willow Blount.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert and Naomi Garrett, her daughter Linda; and her husband of 57 years Robert Blount.
Marcella had an adventurous side that not everyone had the opportunity to see. At the age of 26, along with her husband and 2 yr. old daughter; she moved to Denver, Colorado where they lived for 35 years before moving back to New Martinsville to be near family. Denver was a very different place than Wetzel County but she learned every street and highway on her own with a map in hand. She drove countless friends and family up Pikes Peak and through the Rocky Mountain National Park so that they could experience the mountains of Colorado. 14,000 ft in sun or snow, she was ready. Marcella loved babies her entire life and as a result she became a foster mother for newborns waiting to go to their adoptive parents. She cared for more than 15 newborns during the 60’s and 70’s. She rode horses and participated in many equestrian events and could fix anything from a toaster to a car. She was a survivor. She loved the Lord, her family and friends and any opportunity to be with her grandchildren.
A visitation is planned for Thursday, May 1st, from 5:00-8:00 pm at Grisell Funeral Home, 751 Third St, New Martinsville, W
