French Vernon Cozart

French Vernon Cozart, 79, of New Martinsville, WV took the next step on his journey on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 while at Liza’s Place in Wheeling, WV.

French was born March 23, 1945, in Proctor, WV son of the late Cyrus Henry and Pansy Valtina (Moore) Cozart.

He was a retired pipefitter for PPG and a U.S. Army veteran. French loved golfing, bowling, playing billiards and caring for his “weedless” lawn. He was a fan of the Steelers, WVU football and watching Andy Griffith. French was one of the founding members of the Wileyville Volunteer Fire Department. Volunteered with the Open-Door Ministries program. French was a board member and treasurer for the Wetzel County Committee on Aging. He was a member of the New Martinsville Moose Lodge #931 and the American Legion Marne Post #28 and a member and Trustee of the Laurel Point United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Cozart; siblings, Willis Cozart, Ruth Tockman, Joan Kimble and Kenneth Cozart and his special canines, Dewey, Mocha and Macie.

Surviving is his wife of thirty-nine years, June (Myers) Cozart; children, Dr. Jason Cozart of Morgantown, WV, June “Renee” (Jay) Burnside of Spencer, WV and Jennifer (Paul) Clements of New Martinsville, WV; sister, Shirley C. Haught of New Martinsville, WV; grandchildren, Austin (Cheyanne) Cozart, Hannah (Kieran Swiger) Eller, Yonsell (Erika) Jay Eller IV, Zachary Cozart and Alexandria Cozart; great grandchildren, Oaklyn Cozart and Malachi Eller; grand-dog, Max and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends received 1 to 4 and 6-8 p.m., Sunday, March 9, 2025 at the Jarvis Williams Funeral Home, 1224 S Bridge St., New Martinsville, where services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, March 10, 2025 with Pastors Greg Keith and Don Rush co-officiating. Burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in New Martinsville, WV.
