Sam’s New Fishing Dock

Sam and Sheerron Winer enjoy living right next to the beautiful Ohio River, in New Martinsville. The Winers’ have a beautiful view from their enclosed room on the rear of the home. Large glass windows and a comfortable interior makes a great place to sit and relax while enjoying great conversation.

The couple can relate many stories of past Regatta’s and history of the downtown area. However, a few steps from the back door, Sam enjoys time on his dock watching boats large and small traveling the waters. He is able to tell you quite a bit about commerce travel on the river, including how it’s changed over the years.

When not watching traffic on the river, he enjoys casting a line and feeding fish through his home made feeder. Many of his visitors for lunch are large carp, catfish, and an array of turtles. If you happen to be there you can enjoy an occasional fish fight as they grapple over his offerings.

All of this has been taking place over the years on his old dock that has taken a beating from flooding and other severe weather, along with father time.

Sam said, “After 30 years the old dock needed to be replaced. The Carp here are very happy with the new model.”

It was time to break down and get a new one, so he employed a good carpenter and the result is a better, stronger, and safer place to sit and enjoy a sip of wine while shooting the breeze and reeling in different breeds from the waters of the mighty Ohio.

Besides enjoying their home and the dock, Sam and Sherron enjoy traveling around visiting historical sites. Coming up later this month the couple plans to travel to LeetsDale, Pa, just outside of Pittsburgh to see the last of the big steam locomotives which will make a stop there on July 11, at 6:45 pm.

Sam said anyone interested in the history of the old trains should take the time and make the trip as it may be the last time it ever runs. It’s an event that is happening as part of the country’s 250th Birthday.
