On July 28th at 9:30 am, the members of the Wetzel County Commission, President Carla McBee, Vice President Kelley Nelsen, and Member Lisa Heasley met in the county chambers on Main Street New Martinsville.

IThe first item addressed by the commission was the advice and consent of the assessor to hire Jaden M. Watson and John M. Bungard. A motion was made by Kelly Nelsen and seconded by Lisa Heasley and passed unanimously.

The commission also unanimously passed the notice of apportionment of jointly owned Motor Vehicles in the name of John Strickland and Martha Strickland.

A tabled Item from the previous meeting requesting funding of $15,000 for the Assumption Food Pantry, a 501C3 organization was unanimously approved after the organization provided requested documentation.

Also unanimously approved was an Increase in the IRS funding level for mileage from 72.5¢ to 76¢.

The commission approved the allocation of left over funds in the FUND 41 account, County Fire Protection Funding from the state. Commissioner Kelly Nelsen made a motion to divide the $27,525.00 between the county’s fire departments. Heasley second. All members approved the motion.

Commission member Lisa Heasley made a motion to allow the County Clerk to hire Jacqueline Johnson into the County Clerk’s Office beginning August 17, 2026. Nelsen second the motion. All members approved the recommendation.

Commissioner Nelsen made a motion to approve the reappointment of Kim McConnaughy to NPWDB (Northern Panhandle Workforce Development Board) Board of Directors. Heasley second the motion. All members approved the reappointment.

The commission considered and approved two quotes from Omni to upgrade electronic security measures for the Wetzel County Seniors Center at a cost of $7,450.00, with Senator Charles Clements providing $5,000 towards the cost and Senator Charles Rose providing $1,000. The commission approved the remaining $1,500. The commission approved $7,918 for the same security upgrades to the Wetzel County Prosecutor’s office. Heasley made the motion and Nelsen second. All members approved the funding.

The final item on the day’s agenda was the question of the lease agreement with WVU Hospital for use of the Air Vac Hanger. The Item was tabled until the contract can be prepared.

The commission announced the August 4th Commission meeting will not be held due to members attending a mandatory meeting.
