Wetzel County Voters Pass The School Levy

With just 25.26 percent of registered voters casting ballots, voters took to the polls on Tuesday, May 12, and passed the WC BOE School Levy with 60.53 percent of the votes approving the measure, while 39.47 percent voiced their opposition. When all votes were counted 1,319 approved the levy with 860 against. The levy will become effective beginning in 2028 and run for five years. Wetzel County has 9,909 registered voters, Tuesday’s results showed Democrats outvoting Republicans 1,101 to 1, 074, with 328 nonpartisan votes also cast.

For the Wetzel County School board Devon Tennant defeated incumbent Christine L. Nice 1,044 to 813 to win a seat. Incumbent Jimmy Glasscock retained his seat on the board by defeating challenger Ronnie Wade 1,061 to 787. Incumbent Brian Castilow also won reelection defeating challenger Scott Emch 944 to 900.

The race for Wetzel County Commissioner is shaping up to be a good one as Republican Jimmy Glasscock II was unopposed in the primary and collected 800 votes, while Democrat Michael (Mike) Blair was also unopposed and collected 900 votes. The two will square off in November to see who takes the seat vacated by Commissioner Carla McBee who chose not to seek re-election.

The race for House of Delegates 8th District had two republicans running with Steven Smith of Doddridge County defeating Wetzel County resident and incumbent Bill Bell who assumed office in July of 2025, by a vote of 1,232 to 941. No Democrats were on the ballot so Smith will be the next delegate.

Charles Sheedy unopposed won the republican nomination for West Virginia District 7 Delegate.

In the race for the Republican nomination for District 2 West Virginia State Senate Monongalia County resident Toby Heaney defeated Marshall County Resident Robert Dobkin 3,713 to 3,074.

New Martinsville reelected Kim Whiteman (unopposed) as City Recorder with 716 votes. Ron Brill defeated challenger Steve Yoho 76 to 45 for second ward council, while Incumbent Joe Smith defeated challenger Jeff Montgomery for the third ward council seat 75 to 41. Steve Pallisco, running unopposed, retained his seat with 113 votes.

Chief of Police Tim Cecil was unopposed and received 725 votes to continue reading the Police Department. Tom Lemons had 736 votes to remain as Street Commissioner.

Hundred Mayor Charles “Chip” Goff was reelected as Mayor getting 23 votes as the only candidate on the ballot. Rebecca Goff was also unopposed as town recorder and received 20 votes.

Five council members were elected with Joey McGlumphy receiving 39 votes, Robert Todd Copeland getting 35, Alicia Bragg 32, Patricia Plyler 31, and Johanna Lemasters 30.
